IIT Patna - Admission 2026, Fees, Courses, Placement, Ranking

Indian Institute of Technology Patna, also known as IIT Patna is one of the 23 IITs situated in Bihar near Patna. IIT Patna offers a variety of courses which include Undergraduate Programs like B.Tech Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil Engineering, Postgraduate Programs like M.Tech and Ph.D. Admissions are based on JEE Advanced scores for B.Tech programs, and GATE scores for M.Tech programs. Admission for MTech for this year has closed, GATE applications for 2026 will start from August 2025 and the exam will be conducted in February 2026. For BTech admissions, JoSAA counseling is almost at its conclusion, the registered candidates can check their cutoff from the official site. 

The tuition fee for BTech programs ranges from 8 Lakhs to 10 Lakhs. IIT Patna ranked 36 in the overall category by NIRF in the year 2025. The placement 2024 has been made available by the institute. 96.19% of B.Tech students were placed during the 2024 drive, according to the brochure. In 2024, IIT Patna's highest salary package offered was 59 LPA, and the average salary package was 20 LPA.

Merit cum Means Scholarships at IIT Patna are offered to the students on a merit basis. Students are required to fill in the application forms available on the University'suniversity official website and on the basis of which results are announced for the qualifying students. 

The scholarship grant for the selected students are as follows:

• For General & OBC students- 
• Tuition fees are waived
• Allowance of INR 1000/- per month for two semesters ( 8 months in a year )
• For SC & ST Students-
• Fees for the Basic menu at the mess will be waived off
• Payments to the Hostel will be waived off
• Allowance of INR 250/- per month for two semesters ( 8 months in a year )

Eligibility criteria:

Merit basis-

• First-year students: On the basis of the Semester Performance Index ( SPI) and in case of a tie, AIR in JEE Advanced / JAM will be considered. The minimum SPI shall be 6.5, and the student is required to clear all their subjects in the first semester.
• Second-year onwards: The minimum SPI shall be 6.5, and the student is required to clear all their subjects in the first semester.

Means basis-

• The annual income of a student's parents/ guardians from all means and sources in the preceding financial year shall not exceed INR 4.5 lakhs.

• The Incubation Centre of IIT Patna or IC or IC IIT Patna has become an ideal stop for early bird startups taking steps in the domains of Electronic System Design and Manufacturing, Medical Electronics, and Information and Communication Technology. This center provides short-term courses that talk about an in-depth understanding of core concepts behind medical device innovation.
